Can someone tell me about micro SD memory cards?

Many cell phones have a expansion slot for adding memory such as the Micro SD cards. I found a memory card that says Micro SD HC. What does HC denote, and is this compatible with most cell phones?

Can someone tell me about micro SD memory cards?
HC Cards are a newer format that can have greater capacities than the older standard SD cards. SDHC stands for Secure Digital High Capacity. However, they are not backwards compatible with older devices even though they may fit in the slots. Only devices that specifically say HC on them will be able to utilize those cards. Unless your cell phone says it accepts SDHC cards, looks for something else. I hope this helps.

How do I get my computer to read SD cards?

I'm trying to load my SD card via either my Epson Stylus printer or my Canon PowerSot. I don't want to get pictures or info off of the card, but rather I want to load information such as mp3s and other files so I can transfer and read them on my treo 650. Please advise me how I can do this. I'm running a G4 Powerbook. Thanks.

How do I get my computer to read SD cards?
Well, if you had a SD card reader, your computer might read SD cards.
Reply:you will proably have to get a card reader that plugs into a USB port. they arent too expensive, and come in handy. many of them read multiple types of cards.

heres a link to one at best buy, only 15 bucks. :

Reply:No idea!
Reply:SIMPLE..........IF UR NOT CHEAP GO TO AN ELECTRIC STORE AND ASK 4 ONE SD CARD READER ITS NOT EXPENSIVE
Reply:I like the Sandisk USB flash memory card reader devices at www.sandisk.com. Once you get the card and reader connected properly to your computer, the card appears just like an ordinary hard disk. It's possible that the Treo requires some specialized format, but I doubt it.
Reply:you need a card reader . its in a format your computer cant pick up.

4GB SD memory cards, Is cheaper better than its dearer Equivalent, and do they work at the same speed?

You see advertisements for cheap Sd cards and reviews on these some saying they are great and on a par with the dearer Sd cards. is this the case ? some people talk about the speed of them and some about the quality of the photos. so what really it the difference between them all ?

4GB SD memory cards, Is cheaper better than its dearer Equivalent, and do they work at the same speed?
They are all pretty similar. Photo quality is the same, capacity will be the same. The only difference if any is speed. The higher ends one would usually be faster, but unless you are doing multiple shots in quick succession (at a high resolution), the cheap SD cards will be fine.
Reply:XD or micro XD should work faster than SD

Are there any photo printers (like Sony Picture Station) that support SD cards but do not require a computer?

I have a Sony Picture Station that does not require a computer to print. However, it uses Memory Stick and I have a Kodak camera that uses SD. Are there any other printers that support SD cards but do not require a computer?

What is your opinion on backing up photos to SD cards?

I don't have huge amounts of photos, mostly of my kids %26amp; family. I was wondering how you felt about using SD cards as a form of back up? Do you think they will be stable enough. I don't want to loose my treasured memories. I plan on backing up to DVD also, but as a graphic designer, I've seen far too many of them cause problems down the road. Should I do it?

What is your opinion on backing up photos to SD cards?
You could get a usb flash or thumb drive, they are not too expensive and can hold a lot, depending on how big it is. Plus, it is much safer than a little card
Reply:personally sd cards seem to be an expensive way to store photos... if your that worried about DVDs or CDs you could always, go the old fashionied route, and get hard copies pritned, and put them in a photo album.... that way, u always have a copy, if the dvd or cd go bad.....
Reply:I ask this exact question to a photo specialist. They told me photos will degenerate on discs too over time. They recommended a thumb drive or an external hard drive. I invested in a usb connectible drive for about 75 bucks. It has about 120 gig of memory.

they said it was much safer on there.
Reply:Saving your photos on an SD card wold be expensive, and risky since they are easy to loose. I would recommend an external hard drive. They are getting cheaper and cheaper and BIGGER and BETTER!

You can also back up other things on your computer (files, documents, etc) with an external hard drive AND move things from computer to computer easily with and external hard drive.

Check this one out at Best Buy: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?...
Reply:DVD won't generate over time. If you are aferaid of that, make a backup every 10 years. I am a Professional Graphic designer and backed over 300k photos over 15 years and they are all good.

Some people post comments that make no sense. I would be more worried to leave them on HD that might not work one day to the next.

DVD is the way.

Is it better to store my photos my two separate SD cards than one?

I'm buying a new digital camera and I take heaps of photos. Is it better to buy two 2GB SD cards instead of one 4GB? What are the chances of these SD cards breaking down and loosing all my precious photos? I plan to buy Toshiba SD cards.

Cheers.

Is it better to store my photos my two separate SD cards than one?
Only use the SD card to make the camera work. As soon as possible, transfer the pictures to another medium and back them up. That way you got 3 copies of everything.

SD cards are extremely robust, but irritatingly easy to format.
Reply:put all ur photos on to a dongle then if your computer breaks down you will still have all your photos and then you only need one card
Reply:We tend to buy two instead of one with the theory if something happens to one of them at least you do not lose all of your pictures. Get a little case for them. We started doing this out of convience on a cruise we bought two cards. We would fill one and while the photo department transferred one to disc, we still had a card in our camera.
Reply:It depends upon how better you handle your camera. The better handling very less chances of SD card damage.

It is always better to go for 4 GB SD Card as you don't have to change your SD card when you need to take # of photos for long time.
Reply:why dont you transfer your photos to disc every now and then to ensure you wont lose your photos- if your camera was lost/stolen then the sd card would be lost too- i have a spare sd card but honestly i very rarely use it
Reply:buy 2, becouse I had 1gig card and lost loads of photos as I had to format the card to repair it

What different type of SD Cards are there?

I've heard some are "faster" when recording the pictures and downloading. Is this true? What should I look for? It seems some of my SD cards show images faster that others but maybe its the battery strength at the time?

What different type of SD Cards are there?
Maybe.

The ability of a camera to use the "speed" of a particular card is part of the cameras design called write acceleration (WA). As of February of 2007, no Canon cameras support WA, indeed only a few camera companies include WA in their electronics ... yet.

If your camera has a video mode and can shoot for extended periods of time, a card with a 40x rating is plenty.

Downloading has to do with the speed of the port you are using not any "speed" number on a memory card.

USB 1.1 = 12 Mbit/s

USB 2.0 = 480 Mbit/s

Firewire 400 = 400 Mbit/s

Firewire 800 = 800 Mbit/s

ExpressCard/34 or 54 = 2.5 Gbit/s (found on newer notebooks)

The voltage that powers your camera is regulated, so there is always the right amount of power being supplied to the camera until the batteries fail

The "dimming" of a flashlight (or torch) will not happen on electronic devices like portable CD players, MP3 players, cell phones or digital cameras.

SD Cards!!?

whats the best sd card in the market thats reliable and yet affordable?

SD Cards!!?
They all seem to work the same. Kodak and Sandisk are good
Reply:Any SD card is fine. I personally go for PNY that are made in Japan. Make sure you look at the card itself to see the serial number and in the serial number it says where it was manufactured. PNY cards are just remanufactured Toshiba cards. They are the 4th best I believe.
Reply:I tend to trust sandisk when bought direct from them, they have stated that that's the only way they can guarantee that you are getting a legitimate product from their factory.

When I bought them from Dell, it was a year long fiasco and eventually somebody brought law suits against them for doing that a lot to customers.
Reply:Sandisk all the way. I prefer buying online. For some reason they are way cheaper than retail stores.
Reply:I have a 2GB PNY SD card. I think it was around $20 on sale at circuit city a while ago. works great for me, no problems ever.
Reply:for pics?? if so, i like the kodak ones. they are like 20 for two 1G cards at walmart!!

How do you compare mini sd card to other memory cards when it comes to performance?

I have heard that mini sd card is the cheapest among all memory cards but slowest in performance. How true it is?

How do you compare mini sd card to other memory cards when it comes to performance?
there is no difference in performance depending on size

the MMC/micro sd / mini sd/ and fullsd are all just sizes of cards that range in a wide variety of actual storage 512mb all the way up to 5g the difference however can be found in the manufacturer of the card itself but the size doesnt matter in this case

hope that helps
