Expandable memory in MP3 players? Are all songs both in the player's memory and on SD cards available @ 1 time

Do users usually have good results when using an MP3 player that allows for expandable memory with the use of an SD card? Would you have to remove the card to access songs that are stored directly in the memory of the MP3 player itself?

Expandable memory in MP3 players? Are all songs both in the player's memory and on SD cards available @ 1 time
You can get to both without having to remove the card, but I would recommend that you put all your music onto the card because that way you will have it as a backup if you have to reset your mp3 player and aren't near a computer. Another option is to just get a player with enough memory that it doesn't matter. I offer quite a number of these on my web site if you're interested. Let me know if you have questions regarding a particular model.

Micro SD Cards: Other than the amount of data they hold, aren't all Micro SD Cards the same?

I notice on ebay, they are being sold for specifc items, ie. a Samsung phone uses this one, a Motorola phone uses another. I really did think an sd card was just that an sd card, same with a Micro sc card or a flash card.

Micro SD Cards: Other than the amount of data they hold, aren't all Micro SD Cards the same?
Only thing that differs is the actual physical size and the formatting of SD media. Micro DS are all the same short of having them formatted for a specific device. GOOD LUCK!
Reply:some have different read/write speeds but for the most part its just that name brands have more reliability of the card not going bad or somthing like that

personaly ive always used scandisk....it might cost a little more but if the card ever goes down ill either get a replacement card within about a week or a gift certificate for the ammount i payed for the card.........good custimer service was worth the extra 15$$ to me
Reply:Ya they are all the same. They just tell you what they fit and put in keywords so when you search for a phone, you see the accesories. The quality might not all be the same but an SD card for a phone and an SD card for a camera is the same SD card. But most phones use micro SD.

What is the difference in SD memory cards?

Some say high speed, some don't. For what would you need a high speed card? I have a digital camera, and it does take videos. I just want to know what to look for.

What is the difference in SD memory cards?
They're right, it's the transfer rate.

What this actually means to you is how fast the card stores your image.

Do you like to take a lot of pictures one right after the other (action pictures, like in sports)? If so, you probably want a high speed card.

If you only take one picture at a time and don't try to take another one immediately after the first one, then you probably don't need a high speed card.
Reply:The high speed is the transfer rate. The higher the speed the faster files will transfer to and from the SD card.

Why isn't my Computer Reading any of my SD cards?

I've tried 3 SD cards from SanDisk so far, and none of them work. I've used two different card readers, still nothing. What's the problem?

Why isn't my Computer Reading any of my SD cards?
Did u install the drivers that came with the card reader.

My (DV-DA1-VP) says my SD cards are write-protected, and it will still record to memory. Help!?

The tabs are all in the correct position, and I have tried cleaning the contacts on the SD Cards with Isopropyl alcohol.

I have only had the camera for 6 months, and non of my other cameras have ever had this problem.

I have also tried dust blasters, and multiple SD Cards from multiple companies, with varying memory sizes.

It still works in all other aspects, even as a webcam.

VuPoint will not even respond to my emails.

My (DV-DA1-VP) says my SD cards are write-protected, and it will still record to memory. Help!?
Could you have progammed your cam. without knowingly doing it, to stop pics being copied if you misplaced your card. Check out on the menu section
Reply:I guess I was obtuse...the camera will not write to any SD Card, only to memory. Even new SD Cards are listed as protected.

Thanks anyway.

I can find no reference to that in the menu system, or in the user manual.

I'll call VuPoint by phone, and bug them until they answer. Report Abuse

On the ps3 80gb,that little thing that opens up and can read sd cards what is it for?

on the ps3 80gb the slot near the disk inserter that reads sd cards what is it for and do you really need it ??

On the ps3 80gb,that little thing that opens up and can read sd cards what is it for?
It's to read memory cards and such, like if you have photos or videos and want to view or add them to your PS3's hard drive. You don't really need it. Just another cool feature about the PS3.
Reply:With that slot, you can insert SD Memory Cards, Memory Stick Duo, and CF Flash Cards.

If you have a Digital Camera or some other electronic device that uses CF Flash, Memory Stick Duo, or and SD Memory Card, you can transfer the data saved on the Flash Device to the PS3 easily by just inserting it into the proper slot.

Question about SD cards for digital cameras?

Is there a limit to the size of SD card used with a digital camera? I have a Pentax Optio 30, and wondered if I could put a 1 or 2Gb card straight in there. Would there be a noticable difference in buying a 10mb/s card over a 7mb/s one?

thanks

Question about SD cards for digital cameras?
Make sure you check your manual for card size, but also, look for updates for your camera, maybe you can download a new driver and your camera will be able to handle different types of card brands. Don't worry to much about your speed unless you are shooting sports or wild life.
Reply:unless you plan on taking lots of pictures at once, you will be fine using a 7 MB/s card.
Reply:some digi cams have limits on how much memory they can take. check you manual. it should say this very obviously somewhere. i just overheard a guy at the store yesterday who had this problem. he bought a memory card that was too large for his camera. digi cams have software drivers that are for specific settings. most likely you can go to at least 1 gig. but check your manual. it will tell you.
Reply:You can put unlimited storage size of SD card in your cam as long as the SD card is supported by your camera...
Reply:might wanna check with your manual but for the most part you can stick whatever size card you want in there. I know older cameras could only take so much. but now, i believe whatever size card your wallet can handle will work. as far as the speed thing, that small a difference in transfer speeds won't really make a difference. it's all procesed on your card the same way so you might be able to take another picture faster but I'm talking like 2 seconds faster. not really much a difference so it's really up to you
Reply:It would probably work, but I strongly suggest you either call the manufacturer or take your camera in to the store to check it on the spot.
Reply:I have an Optio Pentax s50 with Meg pix5 and it works good. SD is 128 and another one is 64MB if I was taking just pictures then the 64MB was enough however I use my cam for mini films. So tell me how many minutes can you get with one gig?
Reply:I have a 512 with high speed, good enough for me, but they are up to 2 gig in size, you camera should handle it, but that is a lot of photos!
Reply:There should be no problem putting in a 1 Gb card but take your camera with you when you buy a 2Gb so you can try one before you buy as some brands of 2 Gb cards may not work.

Yes there is a big speed increase of 50% between the 7 %26amp; 10 Mbs cards.

Do SD cards for digital cameras require formatting?

Are does it happen automatically when you plug it into the camera?

Do SD cards for digital cameras require formatting?
No it doesnt. I have a canon and I never had to format my sd card, it should do it automatically.
Reply:Yes, they do require formatting.

It will happen automatically when you put it in the camera for the first time and you shoot pictures..
Reply:It's not so much "formatting" in the sense of formatting a hard drive, more like "establishing the necessary folder structure". But yes, most if not all cameras will do that automatically.
Reply:Yes, you have to format the SD card so the the necessary folders will be created. You will have to do the formatting of the card on the camera manually.

Go to the settings, media cards, then format.
Reply:Of course they require formanting, you have to format the card yourself from time to time when there is no data present in the card, means pictures or video, otherwise all data will be deleted when formanting SD card
Reply:Yes. No.
Reply:Yes it does ... after each use.

What's a good video camera for recording right on to SD cards?

I used to use the cannon ZR series but i've read about the panasonic D-snap. Is it good? is there a better one? i really want to record right onto the card to make transfer easy.

What's a good video camera for recording right on to SD cards?
yes, the panasonic d-snap av-100 is the best as far as 1 ccd, it shoots in mpeg2 and is very small, size of a pack of ciggerettes. Its been out for a while but can get it on Ebay for lot less than retail. Recently I tested mine with mini-sd card and it works fine with adaptor. I take mine skiing, skating or whatever! I have dropped number of times and still works great. If you want a great quality cam with no moving parts, thats small and affordable, get the av-100, they have now a 3 ccd cam version but nothng is as small as the av-100, ppl use these for helmet cams as well.. Also takes stills but the video is the best part, mpeg2/dvd quality, and 10x optical zoom!!

I have a sanyo vpc-503 digital camera. What type of SD memory cards can i use?

I have seen type I and type II memory cards on sale. I have also seen all types of memory card sizes available. I am new to the digital camera universe and need help getting the correct memory card for my camera. Thank you.

I have a sanyo vpc-503 digital camera. What type of SD memory cards can i use?
Sanyo shows that their cameras (I could not find a reverence to your VPC-503) use SD/MMC cards. Just take your camera into an electronics store and have them take a look at the card that is in your camera. They will be able to show you some cards that are compatible with your camera.
Reply:MAKE SURE! that you get at the very least a 1gb card.

I couldn't see the catalog pages you listed, for some reason the URL was incomplete.

There are several really reliable brands of memory cards. SanDisk is good, as are Corsair, Patriot, Kingston. I would check around and look for cards on sale; I've been seeing 2 GB cards for as little as $10!

Hope that helps.
Reply:I'd say the cheapest per gigabyte. I've bought a lot of SD cards, and I've never had a problem with even the cheapest ones.

Do you think that SD cards could replace a DVD or CD in the future?

All you would have 2 so would insert ur sd movie or song library card in a portable media player n there u go . BUt still there might be no sd cards because it might me no removeable n it just saves it on a mini , portable hard drive.

Do you think that SD cards could replace a DVD or CD in the future?
It's possible, but much like the cd replacing the floppy, it'll take a while for the market to be saturated enough that you can get rid of the former technology. If I send you an SD card in the mail, you may not have a reader built in and may have to get an external one (with USB technology, of course, this isn't very expensive as compared to external dvd/cd drives).

Another issue will be the fact that the media itself is more expensive. You can buy a spindle of 100 CDs and give copies of pictures to all your friends (I've done this a few times), but buying them each an SD card is cost prohibitive. So perhaps the cards will be good for personal back ups, but not for distribution.

One final note, we're not quite sure yet what the lifespan is on solid-state media. That's why in large companies where backups matter, they're still using tape drives. SD cards and other media cards will not see corporate exposure for a long time. (Unless maybe there's a problem discovered with USB drives where they corrupt your data after 5 years or something, then perhaps it'll shift for day to day business stuff.)
Reply:no way, DVD's are going into BlueRay and HD formats these day's and in the future CD's are going to be useless as flash drives and DVD's take over.

Reply:no...sd cards is not the same as dvd/cds.... i think sd cards will also be evolved to different format next time...just like dvd/cds are now being evolved further by companies like sony etc...

Does anybody know how to Save mp3 music to like the Sd Cards?

Its for the Wii i wanna put my own music on the slide show where the Photo Channel is!!!!!

Does anybody know how to Save mp3 music to like the Sd Cards?
you put the card inside your compute and open the drive that is using it. Then you go locate the folder on your computer, where all your music files are and open that up. Then you drop and drag your mp3 files into the folder on the SD card that holds your music files.

SD Memory Cards - are they interchangeable ? If you buy one for a camera, can you use it to record mp2 or mp3?

I've got a new DAB radio, which takes SD Memory cards on which I can record programmes. Is this the same type of card I use in my digital camera ? If so, once I have used a card for pictures, can I then insert it into the radio and overwrite it with music ? And vice versa ?

All info gratefully received, thanks

SD Memory Cards - are they interchangeable ? If you buy one for a camera, can you use it to record mp2 or mp3?
This is called a Secure Digital card, and is interchangeable betwen any of thousands of devices that use SD cards. However, if you store music on it, you may not be able to listen to it on things like cameras, depending on your equipment, etc...
Reply:yes you can....
Reply:I think for some DAB radios you may have to reformat the memory card to make sure it's clear as files other than the ones it's able to play may confuse it (and vice versa with the camera)
Reply:If your talking about a Sandisk memory card then yes u can use it for just about anything.

What is the difference between SD and SDHC memory cards?

what is the difference between SD and SDHC memory cards? My camera will take from 26MB to 4GB its states San Disc, Toshiba or Panasonic It is a 10.1 megapixil. What should I get and which brand is better?

What is the difference between SD and SDHC memory cards?
SD only goes up to 2 GByte, SDHC can go up to 2048GByte (in theory!!). Cameras that can use an SDHC card can also use SD, so if your camera can use a 4GByte card it must be able to use SD and SDHC.

Some people swear by a particular brand, but I've never had any problems just buying generic cards.

Can I play window media downloads video on my digital camera though my sd cards?

did downloads it to a sd card ,put it in the camera but camera countnt read it,is they a way to do it?

Can I play window media downloads video on my digital camera though my sd cards?
Convert the windows media download to the format that your digital camera supported. Most of the digital camera take video in MPEG format but some use others like DivX. Do a google / yahoo for the software that does this kind of conversion.
Reply:probably not...but if it can be done, your best bet is to make sure that the downloaded media are in the same format and are copied to the same directory as the videos from your digital camera.

Nintendo DS compatibility with SD Cards?

Ok, odd question and i'm not sure who can answer this. But i'm trying to work with my Nintendo DS(original for any who ask) and trying to use backups (Emus) on it. Now after searching i've found certain SD cards that are specific for the DS (Such as DS Extreme, etc) that run between 50-100+ dollars. Now can I use any SD card that may be compatible? I"m looking at cheaper cards like the X Digital Media from Walmart for like 20 bucks. It's small enough to look like it may fit, but wondering if it's compatible with the DS. And if its not what cards are compatible?

What type of 5.1 mp digital cameras take SD cards?

My PDA takes a SD card, so I have a 2gb card already. I would like to keep with the same type of card for my new digital camera. I am interested in just a point and shoot. Any thoughts?

What type of 5.1 mp digital cameras take SD cards?
well, most cameras do take the sd card. Kodak and Hp take them. They are decent cameras and your not looking to break the bank for purchasing them. Most HP and Kodak are point and shoot and are easy to use. Sony uses memory stick pro duo, and most fuji ase the xd card. I believe that some samsung use the SD card as well. Just when your going to buy a camera, check the package, they should have it posted on the front as to what card it takes. If you are buying online or in the store, just ask the person, they should know.

I actually work in a camera store! There's the S3I5, SD700, and the SD600 for starters. (they are all 6 MP).

The first 2 are around $599, and the last one $429.

What is the difference between micro sd and mini sd cards?

the size. Micro SD is a smaller card. You can get the same amount of memory either way for about the same price though. If something says it needs a certain card, microSD or mini SD, make sure you get the one that it says to get.

Why do some micro-SD cards come with 2 adapters?

i've seen micro SD cards with 2 adapters. I know one might be for the camera, since it could be for an SD card..but what's the other one for? Is the middle adapter for the big one? Thanks!

Why do some micro-SD cards come with 2 adapters?
Some microSD cards come with 2 adapters.. one is to adapt it to the Full (normal) SD size... and the other is likely for the slightly less popular "MiniSD" size... which is of course slightly bigger then micro but not as big as full.

Most devices only use microSD or "fullsize" SD. Though check your device just to be sure.

As a side note, they also have a newer type of "fullsize" SD memory card that sort of transforms itself so it can be plugged into a USB port.. essentially making it work as a flash drive... which is good if your computer doesn't have a card reader. I was skeptical at first, but I've bought one and it works very well.... it's just likely a little more fragile because of the moving parts.
Reply:Some earlier phones use the mini SD card thats the middle one in size.I have a Nokia that uses it.

Of course.

That is why there are standards for CF, SD, xD and Memory Sticks.

The only problems that have been encountered recently are "Fake" cards ... usually the San Disk brand (although Sony has been targeted as well) when purchased on the Internet.

Is is possible to secure data on SD Cards without encrypting the data? Encryption is too slow.?

I would like to encrypt data on my SD cards, which I use in palm and treo devices, but I do not want to encrypt the data. I would really like to be able to password protect folders on the cards so that they cannot easily be accessed except on my device with my password.

Is is possible to secure data on SD Cards without encrypting the data? Encryption is too slow.?
From what I interpret your question, you want to be able to secure access to your data on the Pal, without actually encrypting it....

The answer to this is to use some software for the palm which can secure ur data... Google it and download the software. There are actually a lot of options in the S/W, so that they can make the contents of the folder you want visible only thru that S/W and not thru the normal course... The access to the S/W is password protected so only u will be able to access it.

So just Google correctly and u'll find a software, am sure!

How does SD cards help out on downloading music or pics from my pc to my cell phone?

well, first of all you get more space. thats what i did and now i can store a lot of ringtones that i make from Ventones.

before i could only store 10 or 15. Now i can store hundreds. And even hundreds of pics.

And when you plug in the usb cord, your pc recognized the memory as an external drive and you dont need to install any other program

How does SD cards help out on downloading music or pics from my pc to my cell phone?
The Sd card in your phone just gives you more space for pics and music. so the higher memory sd cards the more pictures you can take and the more music you can add to your phone.
Reply:An SD card in a cell phone is little more than storage space however it also acts as memory. Unlike in a computer a cell phone can’t have its memory upgraded as you would on a PC. A larger card would improve performance on streaming media [i.e. the Internet] because it wouldn’t have to look for space in onboard memory before it loading more data. An SD card is also how your phone handles applications. Much like the Nintendo DS or the N-Gauge an SD card is where the games are stored, more accurately the applications of the games. Unlike those examples most cell phones give you the ability to actually see your files if you can connect it to your PC [usually threw USB, more extreme examples feature a type of P2P downloading]

Depending on what type of phone you have you might be stuck with a proprietary SD card or cards that are made for that particular brand. These can’t be used in any other phone and can be pretty expensive and you can’t use them in other devices which use standard SD like PDAs or Cameras.

If you’re going to buy one I wouldn’t splurge on a proprietary one or it will end up being a waste of money. Make sure its big and you can use it with other devices or directly connect it with your PC.

What is the difference in speed class for SD cards?

ie is a class 4 faster than a class 6 or is a class 6 faster than a class 4?

What is the difference in speed class for SD cards?
go to howstuffworks.com

Reply:The King is right.

You could have googled this too.

Unless your camera supports a class 6 card, you will get the same performance from a class 4.

These card speeds only are important if you are shooting continuous shots (3 to 6 fps) or shooting video on a point and shoot camera.

Can gps maps on sd cards be swapped from another manufacturer such as tom tom vs garmin and still work ?

They are competing each other. If I were Garmin, why should I program maps such that when compressed into a file can be also used by Tom2x, Magellan etc.. Some maps may not even work in other software navigation system even if they are of the same brand, so it is expected not to work on other brands. But most maps(not the map software) may be supplied by same organization like Navteq.

Can gps maps on sd cards be swapped from another manufacturer such as tom tom vs garmin and still work ?
I highly doubt it.

TomTom maps have certificate files that are created when the map is installed or activated. TomTom maps that are available on sd card need to be activated, and this is done using two codes, the product code for the map and the device code for the TomTom unit. The reason for this is to prevent the map from being used with multiple TomTom units, and I am sure it would prevent it from being used with Garmin units at all.

Also the software would probably not be compatible.

Is there a difference between SD memory cards for cameras?

I see regular SD, SD/HC, Ultra III, and a few other tags on them. Is there a difference in writing speed with these? Is this what contributes to shutter lag on digital cameras?

Is there a difference between SD memory cards for cameras?
Ultra, extreme, etc. is usually a designation of faster read and write speeds. SDHC means Secure Digital High Capacity - which won't work in all cameras, so you'd have to check your manual to see if it works with yours. HC does not necessarily mean faster speeds - just a higher storage capacity category.

Generally speaking, just about any card regardless of it's speed will serve your purposes, unless you're working in a professional situation where every minute of your time needs to be managed as efficiently as possible.

Also, this is not what causes shutter lag - that's a product of the camera's need to focus on the image and obtain the proper exposure settings.
Reply:SD=Secure Digital Card(16mega-2giga)

SDHC=Secure Digital High Capacity Card(4gb-8gb)

Ultra ll/Other= Faster Upload/Download times

*Kingston SDHC 16GB comming soon!!!

*I dont see a differance with my Sandisk Ultra ll and Kingston 2GB

*Recomended by me=Kingston SD OR SDHC
Reply:The HC just tells the consumer it is a high capacity card.. Writing speeds are only important if you are saving large files while shooting in the continuous mode.

Shutter lag is caused by the design of the compact digital cameras.

My printer/scanner has a slot for SD cards, If i buy a SD card will all the old pictures that i allready took, will they be on the SD card? and when i put the SD card in my printer will i be finally be able to upload my pictures on my computer!??! THANK YOU!

Do old pictures go on new SD cards?
If you buy a brand-new SD card, I don't know how the photos will be on it, unless you copy them from your camera (does it have internal memory?) to the new card. Check you manual on copying images from internal memory.

If you put the SD card into the card reader on the printer and the printer is properly hooked up to the computer via USB, in theory, you should then be able to load the images onto the computer.

Can I still get small memory SD Memory Cards?

I'm looking for small (8, 16, 32 MB) SD memory cards to keep individual appliactions on for a device I have, I don't want to buy 128 MB+ ones when I don't need them.

Anyone know of any retailers that may have any new old stock?

The ones that turn up on eBay are a rip off!

Can I still get small memory SD Memory Cards?
Not really, today 256 K is the smallest around, but they are like $15.

That's YOU going to a movie and buying popcorn and a small soda.

That's YOU eating alone at Red Robin.

That's a Large Pizza with one topping.

That's a Heinekin 18 pack.

Taht's 4 minutes on a telelphone psychic line.

That's one month's worth of Sunday newspapers.

That's one Angus Porterhouse

That's one week of digital cable TV

That's 5 gallons of gas.
Reply:Ironically, bigger capacity cards are cheaper than smaller ones. Froogle has 32mb cards, but they're more expensive than 512mb and 1gb cards
Reply:yeah on ebay you can.

Just search for "32 MB SD card" or "16MB SD card" on there and a bunch will show up.

Why won't my pc read the SD cards I put it?

I have recently upgraded my very old pc but I am trying to edit and read some information I have on some SD cards, including ones on my mobile. The light goes on besides the slot but that's about it. I'm not sure which drive it suppose to correspond but I have tried all of them. I have even used one of those usb adaptors for them but the same outcome still arises.

Why won't my pc read the SD cards I put it?
Do you connect the Card Reader via a USB Port? If so read on.... The Card Reader need power to drive it, if you are connecting the reader via a cable you will get a power drop over the length of the cable which means there is insufficiant voltage to drive the unit. (I had the same problem with an external Hard Drive I was trying to run via a multi-way hub. When I removed the multi-way and cables it worked fine). If you have a light on it means the slot is trying to work, windows should make a noise when it recognises the new Hrdware and the drive should show up as D,E,F etc. If not the Card Reader is not being picked up and that is another reason why it is not working. As you say it is a very old PC I expect the POwer Supply is not strong enough to supply enough power to the USB slots. I would suggest removing all other USB users, remove multi-way and use the shortest cable possible between the conputer and Card Reader to give you the best chance possible.
Reply:maybe the card's locked?
Reply:Did you install the drivers for your reader if not it won't work.
Reply:make sure the button on the side is on the top.

Do SD Memory cards work with the psp?

So do SD memory cards (ex. camera sd cards) work for the psp, or are the SanDisk Cards the only ones for the psp?

Do SD Memory cards work with the psp?
Actually yes they do, but only if you have a special device that connects into the psp's memory slot. I have one, but I never use it. If you want I'll sell it to you.
Reply:I used an SD and had no problems
Reply:No. As of right now only Memory Stick Pro Duo cards work with the PSP. Sony and SanDisk both make these types of cards although the SanDisk cards have a higher transfer rate of memory. The largest Memory Stick Pro Duo is an 8GB card which was last time I checked $269.99 which is more than the PSP itself.

What SD cards do you need for a wii?

What does SD stand for? which one shud i buy?is it san disc?if it is will only san disc work.because theres like a different brand. and which ones work for a wii?

What SD cards do you need for a wii?
SD = Secure Digital. you don't need SD card for most games. The Wii has in-built memory but SD card is useful for saving data onto if you go round to a friend's hosue for example. Any brand of SD card will work in the Wii; it doesn't have to be Sandisk. Be sure you don't get Mini-SD or Micro-SD as these do not fit in the Wii without the use of an adapter.
Reply:oh and just to say avoid the ones that say made for the wii on them because any SD card will work and those wii SD cards are rip-offs and cost like an extra 60 dollars(there like 80 bucks each!)

no seriously my mom was in the nintendo store in manhattan and the cashier actually told her that
Reply:1. SD means Secure Digital (ok I Googled and I found out Sandisk is not the right answer. Sorry.)

2. It doesn't matter. Any SD cards will work.

3. It's not San disc. It's Sandisk.

4. You can use any SD card for the Wii. I use my camera's SD card and it works.
Reply:All of them work but you need an adapter for the mini and micro ones. (to a normal SD)
Reply:SD stands for Secure Digital. Any SD card will work.

However, your best best is to get a 1GB or a 2GB card to save your game saves, but also to backup your virtual console games and such. That way, if you delete that game, download a different one, you will still have the old game saved on the card. Then when you to delete that game, you can bring back your original game back onto the Wii.

Are there any big differences between brands regarding 1GB SD cards?

I just bought a Kodak digital camera and of course they sell their own brand of SD cards, but is there much difference between Kodak and any cheaper brand that has the same amount of memory?

Are there any big differences between brands regarding 1GB SD cards?
Though everyone has given good information, I'd go with what Pattie A said. If you don't have the camera to exploit the speed of a memory card, then don't waste your money.

The difference in price is due to two factors. Name brand and read/write speed. And yes, there can be a huge difference in speeds between cards. Most likely your camera won't notice the difference since it can't even exploit that slower speed to the max.

But if you did have a newer Digital SLR camera, then you'd want fast cards since their shooting speed is completely dependent on how fast your card can accept the info that is being written to it. But even on the Canon Digital Rebel (not XT) or the Canon 10D, those cameras can't even exploit the speeds of your typical 40X cards that are normally available at any store nowadays.

So in short, go with the cheapest price as long as it's somewhat of a known brand name. Your camera most likely won't suffer any lag from the card. Definitely don't pay extra just for the Kodak name on the card.
Reply:i bought a 1 GB media card at walmart and it was cheaper than the kodak which was only 5.2 MB. it was the SD and it was 50 something dollars and the kodak brand was more expensive like 70 something dollars. Report Abuse

Reply:Not much, they both hold the same amount, just one is more expensive than the other one. I think some may have faster write speeds or something, bit it doesn't matter too much.
Reply:I dont know exactly. But there are some differences
Reply:Yes, there is definitely a difference. You might not notice it, but I bought a fairly expensive camera, and I was looking at a 2 gig memory card. I did some research mostly looking at reviews, and the cheaper ones are more prone to malfunction: camera not recognizing it, storage problems, etc. The biggest reason why memory cards vary in price is the recordable speed. Mine is a 120x speed which is extremely fast. This means that you can take a lot of pictures in a row really fast(factor out the focus speed). I've read plenty of horror stories with cheap memory cards, and I decided not to take a chance with a cheap one.
Reply:well the memory is the same. its all a gimic. they say buy only the brand kodak stuff its all the same. you are paying for the name. its like gasoline. All gasoline has to be tested and all are tested the same. but you see bigger companies charging more than the smaller ones. Its the same ****. Why do you want to pay more for some thing that does the same thing for cheaper. but again no the memory is still the same. they slap a kodak name on it and hike the price up.
Reply:IMHO, buying the name (camera) brand is wasting money, but setting those aside, there is a difference in performance between the cheap and more expensive cards. If you are using a camera just to take snapshots, you probably won't notice the difference. If you are shooting with a DSLR, shooting sports, etc., you will want to pay more to get better performance.

Will any sd card work on wii, or only the licensed wii sd cards?

can i buy a cheap 1gig sd card for wii or wont it work?

Will any sd card work on wii, or only the licensed wii sd cards?
Yes, any standard format SD card will work with the Wii.

High capacity SD cards though (4GB and higher) will not work.
Reply:Yup. You can get a 1gb SD card from Radioshack for $15, or buy the Wii SD card for almost $30. I'd say it's a ripoff on Nintendo's part, but I guess they like all their accessories to match lol. It is the same colors as the Wii. :o)
Reply:Any SD card will work on the Wii. I use a SanDisk.
Reply:Yes

Can I copy between SD cards without a computer?

Is there a device I can buy that allows me to do this? It would need a way to choose specific files to copy between the cards (just a basic screen). I'm sure I have seen one before.

Can I copy between SD cards without a computer?
yeah it's called a SD card reader, they sell them at walmart for like 15-20$

Autoplay for my SD Cards has been Disabled. How can I turn it on?

Basically everytime I insert these cards on my one computer the autoplay does not start. I change the settings to prompt me and apply them, yet nothing happens.

I do not have this problem on my other computer.

How can I fix this?

Check to make sure the card is not locked and that there is something on them.

What's that device that you plug into the usb port that reads sd cards and micro sd cards?

It's a little box with all those different slots. I've seen it but I don't know the freaking name. It holds psp duo stick adapters too. Thanks!

What's that device that you plug into the usb port that reads sd cards and micro sd cards?
Memory Card Reader
Reply:Hi. Your previous answers are correct. They are VERY cheap now.
Reply:Card Reader.
Reply:The device that reads SD cards etc. are generally called "card reader" just check manufacturers such as Sony, Sandisk, etc and see the card readers that they offer which can enable you to read the said cards. Just make sure to check the description/documentation of the card reader and see the compatible cards with it before buying it. Ex. would be these:

Reply:It's called Media Card Reader

Digital Storage media like SD cards that claim to be Ultra Fast, does it make a difference?

or are the regular ones fine. I thought it was the cameras capability, not the storage media. Thanks!

Digital Storage media like SD cards that claim to be Ultra Fast, does it make a difference?
It only matters for uploading to your computer. The speed of the pictures going on to the card is limited by the write speed of your camera. Even the best DSLR's can only make use of a card that would be slightly slower than a Sandisk extreme III. So Sandisk Extreme III is about as good as you need.

Extreme IV will upload faster to your computer as long as you use an external card reader. But it won't record from your camera any faster than an extreme III.

The image buffer on your camera plays a role in the speed at which your camera can take shots as well. Once your buffer is filled, the cameras write speed limits the speed with which the camera can take continuous images.

Let me illustrate:

Canon advertises that their new EOS 40D can record a burst rate of 6.5 jpegs per second. The buffer of this camera holds 75 jpegs. So you can shoot continuously for 11.5 seconds capturing 6.5 images per second. In the meantime the buffer begins to fill up because 6.5 jpegs per second is somewhere in the neighborhood of 22.75 megabytes per second of information that the camera is recording. The camera's write speed can put about 10 megabytes per second onto the card, so then when you take the difference of the 22.75 coming in and the 10 going out you are left with room for 12.75 megabytes to come in per second. That translates to about 2 frames per second once the buffer has been filled. These are of course estimates but you get the picture.

The main thing to realize from all that is that the 10 megabytes per second going onto the card is dictated by the cameras write speed, not the cards ability to accept what the camera is writing. A Sandisk Extreme IV can accept 20 megabytes of information per second, but if your camera can only write 10 megabytes per second, then why not save yourself come cash and get something that only accepts what your camera can do?

You're paying extra for a card that your camera can not even fully utilize.

Of course, if you have a regular pocket camera, then get a regular card, the speed is of no consequence whatsoever.

Hope that helps you!

F-stop
Reply:Check out SanDisc.com

I use their SanDisc Extreme III
Reply:It is actually both.

The only time this becomes important is when a photographer is shooting continuous frames.

Cards are designed to run at certain speeds, just like RAM. The faster the card, usually the more it costs.

On the camera end, the camera must be optimized to utilize the faster cards.

Some of the first Canon DSLR's (over five years ago) did not have this optimization in the the cameras electronics.

How do you get music onto your enV without buying any additional micro sd cards or readers?

I have an orange enV and need to know how to get music onto the enV and how to get im and email on it with verizon charging me any money?? pls help ppl.....

How do you get music onto your enV without buying any additional micro sd cards or readers?
You can get the unlimited texting plan that is $10 a month or 250 txts for $5 (texts include IMs). You need the music kit to put music on your phone. But if someone else in your family already has it, you won't have to buy a new one for $30. The kit works for all vcast phones.

I didn't want to buy the music kit so I used my mom's that is for the Chocolate, which worked fine with my enV.
Reply:get a usb cable and transfer like that

IM is under get it now and get going or something. it cost texts thou. and you can download a lot of email apps for like $5-$20 depending on which one you get
Reply:if your cellphone has a big memory to hold music, then you can save it inside the memory of your cellphone. download music over your cellphone or plug your cellphone using a USB cable to your computer and transfer some songs into your CP. NB: not all song formats can be played on cellphone, hence you might need to look at the manual for further info on what format will be used to play in your cellphone. if not, then you need another micro SD (this time buy the biggest memory of your SD like 4B for music only, it's plenty enough).

*to get IM %26amp; email for your cellphone, your carrier will charge you, i supposed. ask info about this from your carrier too.
