No it doesnt. I have a canon and I never had to format my sd card, it should do it automatically.

Reply:It's not so much "formatting" in the sense of formatting a hard drive, more like "establishing the necessary folder structure". But yes, most if not all cameras will do that automatically.
Reply:Yes, you have to format the SD card so the the necessary folders will be created. You will have to do the formatting of the card on the camera manually.





Go to the settings, media cards, then format.
Reply:Of course they require formanting, you have to format the card yourself from time to time when there is no data present in the card, means pictures or video, otherwise all data will be deleted when formanting SD card
