Regarding storage media for digital cameras, what is the difference between SD and CF cards?

Are the two types interchangeable? Will the same PCMCIA adaptor work with both?

Regarding storage media for digital cameras, what is the difference between SD and CF cards?
What he said.

For the Canon S3, you'll need an SD card. A 512MB card should suffice (176 pictures at best quality and up to 1777 pictures at the lowest quality)

I can personally recommend the brand SanDisk. Their 'Ultra 2' line should be fine for your camera. They have faster cards, which are more expensive, but your camera can't take advantage of the extra speed.
Reply:SD is Secure Digital and CF is Compact flash. Size wise they are a totally different size and shape, so they are not interchangeable, and unless your PCMCIA adaptor is miltifunction it won't work with both of them.
Reply:SD = Secure Digital

CF = Compact Flash.

How do you update your computer to read a 2GB SD card?

My laptop running windows XP has a built in reader however it will not read the larger memory cards. I do not have a problem with SD cards that are 512MB or smaller. Is there a patch or fix for this? When I try to open it I get an error message that it is not formatted and do I want to format.

I have a digital camera and it stopped reading the sd cards- how do i fix it without having to pay someone????
Is it happening on just one card? You may need to reformat the card or get a new one. If it's happening on more than one, you may have dust or debris in the card slot. Since you didn't list the type of camera that you have, I can't really tell you much more. If you can reset all your settings on the camera, do so. Also, make sure that the lock isn't on (seems obvious, but I spent an hour on that one before).
Reply:First you have to check if it happens just on this card or in other cards too

Can you retrieve deleted pictures off an SD memory card?

I accidentally deleted some pictures thinking they'd already been uploaded, but they hadn't been. I know that computers don't always fully delete information until it's been formatted, they just mark the space as usable again and then later write over it. Do SD cards work the same way, and is there a program (preferably free or cheap) that can retrieve those pictures?

Can you retrieve deleted pictures off an SD memory card?
You're in luck, it works the same here, check out ZAR (Zero Assumption Recovery). You'll have to download their full-product, but the digital image recovery is free. I've found it doesn't matter if you formatted or not, you can still get the images unless you've taken a lot more pictures since you realized you messed up.

http://www.z-a-recovery.com/demo-ir.htm
Reply:I use Image Rescue 3 program. http://store.lexar.com/index.cfm?categor...

But if you start taking more photos on top of the deleted files, they may be overwritten--so if you accidently format a card, you should stop everything at that point.
Reply:yes, there are recovery programs for those cards. just do not format the card. sorry but I'm sure someone will provide a link
Reply:once its deleted there is no way to get them... unless you buy this contraption online that is expensive and retrieves them but not sure what its called. a friend said her bf bought one to see what she did at a club and he saw pics of her kissing her ex. SO it must exist hope this helps

What driver do I need to run sandisk sd cards?

You don't 'run' an SD card. You don't need to install any drivers for it. Just insert the card and write to it or save files from it.

Goodluck !!

What driver do I need to run sandisk sd cards?
you need to either have a internal card reader or buy a reader that supports SD

Do I need a SD memory card for my 7 megapixel digital camera that has a high write speed?

I can't decide what SD memory card to buy for my digital camera. There are two options, the less expensive SD card that has a write speed of 1.5 megs/second and the more expensive card that writes at 7 megs/ second. I've read that cameras will take a long time to save pictures on slower memory cards. But, some other people have said that there is no noticeable difference.

Can you help?

Do I need a SD memory card for my 7 megapixel digital camera that has a high write speed?
BY ALL MEANS, get a card with the higher write speed. Even in a 2 MP camera, my daughter saw a huge difference. I wrote this for someone else, but it applies to you, except that your camera is 7 MP instead of 6. Do the math. I imagine a 7 MP camera would usually create files that were 4 MB or less.

Sandisk makes some nice higher speed cards in SD format (and others) with a lifetime warranty. The Ultra II is "mid range" high speed and Extreme III is ultra high speed. We have an Extreme in my wife's D50 and never had a problem with write speed. Click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click.....

The benchmark of 1X is a transfer rate of 150 KB per second.

40X is a common card, so the transfer rate would be 6 MB per second.

Sandisk Ultra II claims a minimum write speed of 60X or 9 MB per second, and a minimum read speed of 66X or 10 MB per second.

Sandisk Extreme III claims a minimum write and read speed of 133X or 20 MB per second.

The largest 6MB photos on a D50 camera seem to be about 3 MB, so it seems that an Ultra II could save 3 high data images per second, while an Extreme III could save 6 high data images per second. The D50 continuous mode gives up to 2.5 frames per second, so you could be gathering about 8 MB of data per second. If you do not have at least the Ultra II or equivalent, it is easy to see how your D50 bogs down at times.
Reply:If you get the 1GB, that would give you plenty of space especially if you are out for at least 2 weeks on vacations so that you don't run out of space.
Reply:This is a relative issue (relative to what you are doing with your camera). Most cameras, especially of the 7 megapixel and up variety, have a sufficiently large buffer to hold several shots. It is pretty difficult to fill up that buffer, requiring you to stop shooting as it moves the photos from the buffer to the memory card.

There are two exceptions....taking pictures in RAW mode (the files for these are huge) and using the setting that takes multiple pictures continuously as you hold down the button. Doing both at the same time will almost certainly require that you have a high speed card.

If you aren't doing either of these things, a high speed card is a waste of money.
Reply:yup there aren't that much of a difference in speed cause most of ur pics would be around 3mb each on the highest rez, but when u r transferring the data to ur comp, there will be some difference in speed but that doesn't matter that much

SD Memory cards - are they universal to fit all Digital Cameras?

My mother has an Olympus Camedia C-180. Santa brought her a Tevion 2GB Memory card - it is still in its plastic packet (and may be returned if it does not fit). I tried the memory card from my Traveller Digital in the Camedia and it seems reluctant to slot in. Is it really necessary to purchase a Camedia Specific Card? Do such cards exist? Cheers (Happy New Year)

SD Memory cards - are they universal to fit all Digital Cameras?
Think it's an XD card you need:

http://www.mymemory.co.uk/compatible-mem...
Reply:No, SD cards are not universally used in digital cameras. Whatever you do, don't try and force it in.

SD cards are the most common type in general use. They're also used in video cameras and SD slots are built in to lots of computers and even some television sets and DVD machines (especially Panasonic).

There is also a mini-SD variant used by some cameras . With an adaptor this can be used in a standard SD slot.

People such as Sony (Sony Memory Stick) and Olympus (XD card) use their own types which are not compatible with SD.

If you're buying a camera/video/tv/PC/DVD or whatever in future it's worth considering what type of memory card it uses (if any).

These days I never buy anything without an SD slot. That way there is never any compatibility issues between my A/V gadgets.

Have a look at Amazon.co.uk for a range of cards to fit Olympus.
Reply:It'll be an XD card you need, they are smaller than SD.Different makes of digital cameras use different cards, SD, CF, XD................ best to check when buying the camera.

Olympus and Fuji make XD cards.
Reply:Olympus cameras ONLY use xD picture cards. If you bought an SD card, then of course it will not fit, and you will have to exchange it for the correct type of card.

An xD or 'M' type xD card is what you need. Any brand will be perfectly ok.

Don't forget to format it before you use it (this is done in the camera menu).
Reply:different cameras require different memory cards. happy new year
Reply:Yes, you do need a xD card rather than an SD card.

The way it usually works is that most companies have use a specific type of memory card. There are only a few. For example, all of the sony digital cameras use pro duo memory sticks, while all canons use SD cards (along with many other companies and devices). Olympus happens to use xD memory cards. So although SD cards are the most common form, you need an xD card. They're just slightly more rectangular. Happy New Year! =]

How to get photos from my micro SD card to my computer?

The SD card fits into my camera phone, and came with 2 adapters that look like larger cards. The problem is that my computer does not have a memory card reader slot. Is there a cable I can buy?

Thank you so much =)

How to get photos from my micro SD card to my computer?
You can buy an usb memory card reader which costs less.

Or you can transfer it to your pc using bluetooth (if bluetooth is available in your mobile ) . If you dont have blutooth in your computer buy an usb bluetooth dongle.

Or check a data cable for your mobile model andbuy it.

The best solution is to buy usb memory card reader as it transfers data at rate of more than 10 mbps

Something. it nothing does come up. go into the start menu and find something that says photo shop or camera wizard, ect. Hit copy wait a little bit then it will say done. On mine it has three options when your done

How do I use my micro SD card on my computer?

I have the new LG rumor phone and it has the micor SD card and I would like to know how to use it on my computer. It's my first time using one of these cards.

How do I use my micro SD card on my computer?
It depends what computer you have... older computers do not have a space for these, but the newer ones do. It should be a little slot on the front of your computer....

If your computer only takes a regular sized SD card (in newer computers only also) than check if your phone came with another card that the micro one fits into, this way you put the mini one into the converter and then into your computer.

However if you dont have the part in your computer you canot do it. Go back to the phone shop to ask about transfering them via blutooth or get a cable.
Reply:You can buy an adapter that plugs into a usb slot i have one and it works good for me. it has a slot to put the card in Report Abuse

Reply:Your computer should have a slot either in the front or the back for your card. Unless you are using a very old computer that was made before those cards were invented.

Mine has, I believe, 6 different slots for various things. I use my SD Card from My digital camera all the time and that has a slot in the front of mine.

Check out your computer and if you have a users manual that will tell you the correct slot to use as well.
Reply:I too have a LG. The micro sd card, does it have a mini card that is removable? If so there is a spot on the Phone that you can put it into and save on it from phone. Then there is a USB that opens for the chip on one end and the other plugs into the computer. Oh the USB is called a transflash for micro sd.

After you get that figured out when you plug into your computer if it does not come up goto my computer and click on your destination.

good luck hope this helped
Reply:it should have come with a regular SD sized adapter. if it didnt you need to get one.
Reply:It fits into a little case, or adapter, that looks like a regular sized SD card that you just snap it into. Then you can use it on your computer or card reader.

What is a suitable SD card for my digital camera?

What GB should i get if i want to take about 170 photos and a couple of videos?

I have a 12mp camera.

I don't know anything about camera's and sd cards so can you please help me? Thanks.

What is a suitable SD card for my digital camera?
You may as well get a 4GB card as they are so cheap these days if you buy from a cheap supplier... http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electron...
Reply:One gig is fine, but, if you can afford it, why not go ahead and get the two gig?
Reply:A 12mp camera is gonna use a lot of memory per photo. So you want to at least get a 1 gig SD card. Most digital cameras use SD cards, some use others, so it just depends on the model camera u have. But u want to shoot for at least 1 gig. A good 1 gig SD card will run u no more then $30
Reply:Apart from going for the largest capacity card. Do you really need to take photos at 12mp?

Your camera should give you the option to take photos at a lower resolution, which would work out less expensive in the long run.
Reply:Go to a photo shop; ask experts; read the manual!

They will want to know make, model, year etc.

No-one on YA can help you without this info.

Some cameras will only accept small capacity memory cards.
Reply:do not think at all about 1 gig. minimum 2 or 4 if you can afford. but watch it my adult daug knackered mine in when transfering on to comp and she is supp to know about comps.
Reply:Probably 1gb for 12 mega pixels. My camera is only 7.2 and 1gb can get me around 320 photos. 12 needs a lot more space.
Reply:If you shop around you can get a 2 gig SD for under $25. I just got one at Best Buy. Buy 2 if you can afford it, that should be plenty.

Software for testing SD Memory cards?

I'm purchasing a Micro-SD memory card off ebay, but would like to verify the integrity of the card upon receipt. Does anyone know of any software that can run an integrity test on SD cards?

Software for testing SD Memory cards?
Hi,

Try downloading SiSoftware's Sandra from http://www.sisoftware.net/

It lets you perform all kinds of benchmarks on your computer. You should be able to perform some read/write speed tests and file system tests on your micro-SD card.

These results will also depend on your card reader/writer so that may cause some poor results.

How do I get mp3 files onto an SD card for my Nintendo Wii?

My mp3 player and camera don't use the same memory cards that fit in my Wii. If I bought an SD card, what adapters or accessories do I need to transfer pictures and music from a computer to the card? Once I have everything, is it easy to put files onto a memory card?

How do I get mp3 files onto an SD card for my Nintendo Wii?
It's a good question. I have an SD card that works with the Wii, but I can't get anything to happen with it, anyways.

Usually whatever you purchased the SD card for will act as a storage device. If you hook the device your SD card is inserted in into your computer's USB drive, your PC will usually read the device as another drive. All you have to do then is transfer files like a portable drive.

I'm betting your camera or your MP3 player will act like a portable drive once connected to the PC. If you buy an SD card for the Wii, just get a $10-$20 SD card reader for your PC and it'll act like another drive also.
Reply:insert the SD card into the computer click on my computer and under devices with removable storage your SD card should pop up. then take a file and drag it to the SD cards memory. (you have to have a SD input on your computer.)

Approximately how many minutes does a 4gb sd card record using a hd digital camcorder?

I'm planning to go snowboard this year and i don't have a camcorder. So i was viewing many different types of camcorders and I found some that are high definition and they are not very expensive. So i want to know how this deal of sd cards work. I couldn't find any info in the camcorder's technical details about how much video it records. The SD card technical detail does not say anything either. So if anybody that knows a little about this can help me, i will appreciate it. Also if you can give me an advice of what could be a nice hd camcorder that won't go over $500. Or what do you recommend me to buy having in mind that the device will work in low temperature. I'm worried about the quality, but if there is not much difference between a regular digital camcorder's quality of image and a high definition one, also let me know. Thanks!!! And excuse my English!

Approximately how many minutes does a 4gb sd card record using a hd digital camcorder?
Hi, on a 4Gb SD Card, you can store 60 minutes of data with High Quality, but if u reduce the pixel setting it can go upto 90min also, which is sufficient,

also allways carry extra Batteries, and memory card... this will help u,

I think u should go for Panasonic hdc-sd1, this is a really good HD Camera.... price is a bit high around 750, but worth putting the money,
Reply:about 4 hours or 240 minutes and as far as camcorders go the new flip camcorders is awesome

How come kingston SD memory cards are cheaper than other card brands?

are they not that good in performance. they have the 2gb ones cheap on amazon for $14.99.

How come kingston SD memory cards are cheaper than other card brands?
The price on all flash memory is dropping like a rock. That means that the field is very competitive not that the product is bad. I would buy the Kingston just because the price is so low and it is a name brand. If it was generic I wouldn't touch it.
Reply:There are only like six flash card makers of which Toshiba (San Disk), Samsung and Lexar are the most popular

Toshia sits on Lexars board and Lexar sits on Toshiba's board and they are currently suing each other for technology violations!

I think Kingston might be a Lexar made card.
Reply:The low priced Kingston's aren't as fast. This may or may not make a difference, depending on your camera.

it will probably be fine. In the old days they were a bit less compatible than the Sandisks and Lexars, but I think that they've gotten better. They're just not on the cutting edge of the technology.

Frankly- it's amazing that you can buy 2Gb of memory for $15.

Very soon, laptops will be coming without hard drives.

How do I get video off my SD card to a DVD or computer?

I have a HP camera. It takes pictures as well as video. I got it years ago as a present and I don't have any instructions. I have taken several videos using the camera, but I can only view them on the SD card. I can take the SD card to the store to get the pictures printed and put it on a CD, but it doesn't even show me the video that was saved unless I'm using my camera to view it. Does anyone know how I can save these videos to a CD so I can always have them. I have a video of my 99 year-old Great Grandmother on one of the SD cards and she died a year ago Sunday. It would be great to get a copy of it instead of it always being on a SD card. Please help if you can. Thanks in advance.

How do I get video off my SD card to a DVD or computer?
You need either a card reader, which you put the card in and then insert in your usb slot on your PC. Or a usb cable that attaches to your camera. Both are cheap and easy to find.
Reply:There are a few steps you need to take. First copy everything on the card to your computer. Next look at each file to make sure they were not corrupted during the copying process.

If you right click on the video file, you will be able to open it with a program that is on your computer. If you are successful, then make a CD or DVD of the files and try running the video from the CD or DVD using the same program.

That should do it.

What is the most reliable SD Flash Memory card I can buy for my digital camera?

I already have one SD card that has failed on me (yet never had this problem with CompactFlash cards). I am afraid I will loose my family photos on my upcoming vacations. With all the hype companies post for their own products, and all the problems I've read for various brands, it is hard to find what is the most reliable SD card out there.

What is the most reliable SD Flash Memory card I can buy for my digital camera?
Sandisk and Lexar are the best known memory cards for digital cameras. I am sure that the cards all pretty much perform the same, but these brands have a lifetime warranty for some of their products, so that makes me think they are built to higher standards. As far as day-to-day use, I have some generic and some of each brand I named and they all work. The contacts on the brand name cameras seem to have the equivalent of the "thunk" that you look for when you shut a car door to check it's quality, if you know what I mean. You don't wonder, "Is it in there right?" because it just feels right. I don't buy generics any more, though. I just end up getting them "with things" somehow.

Of course, you'll need a decent memory card and I recommend a genuine Sandisk Ultra II (60X) or Extreme III (133X) of at least 1GB. Lexar is another excellent card supplier and they have the "Professional" 133X as well as the Platinum 80X to choose from. Both Lexar and Sandisk come with image recovery software that you copy onto your computer before you format the card and both have limited lifetime warranties.
Reply:I have never had problems with Kodak memory cards. Very good quality
Reply:Dr. Sam has a good answer there. I would like to add that even reputable branded memory cards have failed on me. Although the card is now usable again, all the photos that used to be on my Sandisk 1 GB card suddenly disappeared overnight, literally. (I ended up using recovery software to recover the photos). I don't intend to imply that SD cards are very unreliable, but all electronics are prone to failure to some degree. It is just on occasion.
Reply:they are all reliable

the trick is to never use a card reader

that is what ruins them

What is the difference between an SD memory card and an SDHC memory card?

i just bought a JVC Everio GZ-MG130 camcorder and it requires an SD memory card. it recommends using a high-speed SD card at least 10 MB/s... when shopping around online, i keep seeing ones that are SDHC memory cards. Are they the same thing or something completely different?

What is the difference between an SD memory card and an SDHC memory card?
SDHC cards are compatible with devices that has the SDHC logo and have higher capacity 4-32Gb.

They are different from a regular SD memory cards. Get the Sandisk Extreme III SD card if you want the high speed ones.

Is there REALLY a difference between generic and brand-name SD memory cards?

So I've been doing a little research on the new SDHC format to ensure my new digital camera is compatible, and I'm looking to buy a 16gb SDHC memory card off of eBay. Is there really any difference between the generic brands (AData, Transcent, TopRam, Kingston, etc.) and name brands such as SanDisk?

Is there REALLY a difference between generic and brand-name SD memory cards?
Not really dude. I mean its like general medication. You can get name brand antibiotics for $60 or you can get the same thing, but with a generic title for $20.

Your getting the same thing, with a warranty, your just not buying it for the name they have built. Safeway soda taste like pepsi cola. You just only pay 50 cents instead of 2.00

enjoy your new 16gb, that thing is MASSIVE
Reply:no
Reply:No, I have both and it´s the same!
Reply:Not that I know of, I'm no expert, but Ive used both and see no difference. Save a few bucks and buy generic!
Reply:Yes. Brand names usually ensure their products are quality and will last for a really long time. Generics just want to chug out a product for someone who does not have the money to afford the higher qualities. Honestly, I would not go cheap with anything that has to do with either a camera or a television. You usually get what you purchase.
Reply:I doubt it, the name brands MIGHT be SLIGHTLY faster, but not a noticeable amount. I'd go for the cheep stuff.
Reply:sto usando entrambi e mai non ho visto una differenza

Re: formatting SD cards over 512Mb., i.e. 1Gb, to 4Gb cards. My fully updated Xp-SP2 crashes when I try this?

I have various devices that use SD cards, my laptop, my satnav, my mob, and my camera. The satnav incorporates a large screen, a pic viewer and an mp3 player fed by files on the SD card. What I want to do is build some photo and mp3 libraries on larger SD cards so that I can both use them myself in the car, mainly the mp3's, or use the portable satnav as a screen to show others survey photos or similar. The libraries for both are stored on my pc, hence I want to download edited sets from these libraries to the SD cards for portable use. The pc has an integral card reader.

With 1Gb cards the formatting process ends in the dreaded blue screen.

With 2Gb cards it just reports 'cannot format this......'

The process works with 512Mb cards - so the tech is there to do what I want. The problem is the higher cards, which seems strange as the capacity of even the biggest SD cards at 8Gb is trivial compared to portable HD's etc., that it can format.

Does anyone know of a 'workaround'?

Re: formatting SD cards over 512Mb., i.e. 1Gb, to 4Gb cards. My fully updated Xp-SP2 crashes when I try this?
try formatting with a different "format" Does it give you Fat 16 by any chance? some machines don't like the Fat 32.

Anyone know anything about SD cards. I'm getting a message about the card not being formatted.?

The Camera works sometimes and then I get the message to format the card. Camera or SD card. Which do I replace???

Anyone know anything about SD cards. I'm getting a message about the card not being formatted.?
the manual tells you to format the card before you use it.

the manual will give you directions on how to format the card.
Reply:If you have any images on the card, load then on your computer then format the card IN THE CAMERA. Your manual will tell you how. Formatting the card will remove any images it holds.

What SD cards are compatible with a Kodak C533 digital camera?

An SD card is just an SD card. They only vary by amount of memory and manufacturer. Any one that is the stamp size should work.

If you need Video Cassette to record something, you can by one that holds 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, etc.. You can buy one from Sony, Maxell, or Fuji, but they will all work.

Same concept.

If you go to any electronics store and ask for one they should be able to help show you what you need.

What SD cards are compatible with a Kodak C533 digital camera?
If the manual doesn't say miniSD or microSD but just SD, then that should mean regular SD cards. You camera might have a limit on the card capacity though (say up to 2GB)
Reply:an sd card is an sd card unless it is mini.

Reformatting would remove it.

My daughter is in Cambodia. Her cameras SD cards are infected with a sohanad worm.Any ideas for removal pse?
insert your sd card to a pc and run search. on the search bar type *.exe . delete all results with a folder icon. search for new folder.exe and delete it too.NEVER EVER double click on those folders or your pc will be infected.it can disable regedit, task manager and your yahoo messsenger will send annoying messages to all your yahoo contacts.if your pc got infected by this, go to my website. www.irvinparcon.co.nr and click on virus help. You will see a step by step instructions on manually removing this worm.i run a computer shop business and i always encounter this virus and the strawberry virus if you are familiar with that.If you have a hard time on my instructions because of my english, you may i.m. me on yahoo or send an e-mail to ice9fetus81@yahoo.com
Reply:The safest procedure would be to simply replace the cards with new ones. I'm not sure if formatting the card would do the trick or not. SD cards are very inexpensive now and that's the best way to be sure that all future images are safe.

Unfortunately, she probably has the sohanad.worm in her computer now. If she can hold out, I'd recommend not connecting the camera or SD cards to her computer until it's been decontaminated.

Hope this helps you and your daughter.

Any special requirements on Wii SD cards?

I'm getting a Wii for Christmas (Fiancé intercepted and wrapped it before I got home :-P) and I wanted to get an SD card to store and transport VC games. I see Wii SD cards for sale at $60.00 but I recently purchased a 2GB SD from Buy.com for $10.00. Is there any special formatting required to use it on the Wii? Thanks in advance.

Any special requirements on Wii SD cards?
I purchased a 512 MB from target on black friday for $8. Works perfectly. I don't think they have any special requirements. If it works with a camera, chances are it will work with the Wii. On a side note, Nintendo states that if you run out of memory you can delete any previously purchased VC games and download them again at any time without having to pay for them again. Essentially once you pay for them, you can download them to you Wii an unlimited number of times.

How do you put music and videos on sd cards for my wii?

please help how can you put music and videos on your wii using ur sd card

How do you put music and videos on sd cards for my wii?
if your computer has an SD card slot, stick it in and look for that "drive" on "my computer". Open it up, and drag and drop your videos and music on it. It should automatically be saved on your SD card. Just put that card in the wii and you should be able to view and listen to music.

If you don't have an SD card slot on your computer, get a card reader and attatch it to the computer. Put the SD card in the card reader and do the exact same thing of drag and dro p.

What is the difference in the transflash and flash sd cards for mobile phones?

microSD is an ultra-small, removable flash memory card format originally based on SanDisk's TransFlash card format. It is primarily used in mobile phones, but because of its size and increasing capacity it is also being used in handheld GPS devices, portable audio players, flashcards and the real difference between them is microSD supports Near Field Communication Technology of sharing information between phones hopes that helps good luck

Are all SD cards created equal?

I have a Samsung 5.1mp camera and have been using an Impact 1 GB SD card with it. The camera takes great photos and I wanted another SD card so I bought a Kodak 2GB brand because it was a great price.

Does the SD card have anything to do with the quality of the photos? My mom has had a Kodak camera before and the photo quality wasn't nearly as good.

Are all SD cards created equal?
1) "Are all SD cards created equal?" I'm sure there's some differences in the reliability of SD cards, but I've never had one actually fail in the past 6 years of using memory cards for various digital cameras. Given that few "big name" SD cards are actually made by the company on the label, and the chips are made by still somebody else, it's hard to to tell who made what and its reliability.

The best answer I can think of : A good indicator of quality is probably the length of the warranty.

Once, the batteries died in my camera just at the moment when a photo was being written. As a result, all the photos in the card were corrupt. But that wasn't the fault of the card. A simple re-format of the card made it usable again, but I lost all the stored pictures taken up that point.

2) "Does the SD card have anything to do with the quality of the photos?" It really shouldn't. The quality of the camera determines how good the photo is, not the storage - unless the storage fails for some reason.

If you have a SD slot on your computer, or if you have a USB plug-in SC memory card reader, you can have your computer scan your SD card for errors, the same way you'd have it look for errors on your hard drive. I've never seen any bad spots in my camera cards (or flash) drives in all the 6 years I've been using one or the other....
Reply:As long as you have a memory card for a mainstream card maker (and there are many good ones you may never heard of) and you did not buy it on eBay (sorry eBay, but you have to reign in these companies selling fake cards and bate and switch camera stores), you should enjoy saving your images to any card that your camera will use.

Storage is just saving images in a series of 0' and 1's. If the camera you are using or your technique is poor, the card will record that as well as images taken by the best of the best. It is just like film ... the image quality has mostly to do with the cameras lens, sensor and the camera's operator.
Reply:the storage has not so much to do with image quality and more to do with how many photos you can write to a card and how fast this can happen. Don't get me wrong I am sure some brands are more reliable then others.
Reply:To paraphrase the answer, 'some are more equal than others', i.e some cards will have a better/faster 'write' speed. Lexar is a good name for write speeds, but then there is always Sandisk.

How do I resolve problems reading SD cards on my HP iPAQ 2210?

I have three SD cards for use on my HP iPAQ 2210. One of the SD cards cannot be read by the HP iPAQ 2210 any longer (previously was working with no problem). The other two SD cards can be read by the HP iPAQ 2210 with no problem. However, the problem SD card can be read by my PC using a LEXAR Media JumpDrive Trio without any problems. CF cards can be read by my HP iPAQ 2210 with no problems.

I am using the SD cards to store movies to watch on the HP iPAQ 2210.

The problem card is a Toshiba 128 MB, while the other two that work OK are Toshiba and SanDisk.

How do I resolve problems reading SD cards on my HP iPAQ 2210?
Corruption, reformat is enough to solve it, preferably via the iPaq.

What kind of digital cameras use micro sd cards as memory?
Micro SD cards are really designed for MP3 players and cell phones, rather than digital cameras.

However, any camera which can take SD memory should also be able to accept micro SD memory via the SD adapter, up to the memory limitations of the camera.
Reply:With an adapter, all but three will.

Sony, Olympus and Fujifilm (most of them) use other kinds of memory cards.

Is there a difference in the brand of SD memory cards for a digital camera?

Sandisk and Lexar come bundled with image recovery software that you copy onto your computer before you format the card. I am sure that the cards all pretty much perform the same, but these brands have a lifetime warranty fro some of their products, so that makes me think they are built to higher standards.

Is there a difference in the brand of SD memory cards for a digital camera?
it is about the speed and reliability. Sometimes a no-name or an unknown brand is just about refused/returned or "B" quality lots of cards from Big Brands.
Reply:I've used Sandisk, Canon, Fujifilm, Lexar, and "never heard of this brand before" SD cards in my digital cameras over the past 4+ years. I never had any problems with the cards, ever. I did have pictures corrupted as a picture was being saved when the batteries went dead - but that was the batteries' fault, not the card's.

Yea, you can get a good warranty, but I never had to use the warranty in the past four years. Ask yourself if you're willing to pay the extra money for the insurance. Given the dropping prices on memory cards, I figure it's not. IMHO, of course.
Reply:I've had a failure on a 1GB SanDisk SD card. It is one of their old, blue ones. The serial number on the back is BB0411WH and it says, "China" on the back. It worked for a few months and died. The camera suddenly said it needed to reformat the disk. I put it in my PC to download the photos that were still there but the PC would not recognize it. I tried to retrieve the photos by using software that recovers deleted files to no avail.

I now have their newer Ultra II black SD card and have not (yet) had a problem.

Good luck.
Reply:I have had generic ones and name brand ones and they all seem to perform the same for me.
Reply:No. I have used San Disk, A-DATA, Kingston and Canon and the only differences I have found is price. San Disk has to be one of the biggest rip-offs out there.

How can you read SD Memory cards on your Computer?

Reading SD Cards

How can you read SD Memory cards on your Computer?
Buy a flash card reader, maybe about $40 or cheaper in any decent computer store. You can buy one that only read one media, but most now can read a variety of flash media.
Reply:The easiest way is to purchase a sd to usb adapter. They are fairly common. Many HP's come with media card readers built-in. You can also purchase multi-card desktop/ usb card readers. The links are examples. Hope this helps.

These products also allow you to transfer pics to the sd card. Staples, Best Buy, Circuit City and probably even Wal-Mart should all carry something of this sort.
Reply:Get a media reader. It's a device that can hook up about five different media cards. They only cost about $15. You stick that device onto the USB drive of your computer, and the SD card goes into the device.
Reply:You need to have a sd connection from your computer. So that you can plug the Memory Card. To buy one go to bestbuy or similar.

What is the difference between SD and XD memory cards?which one should i opt for my olympus fe15 model camera?
I do not believe SD is an option for you. You will need to buy an Xd card for that camera. You can get some good deals at newegg.com, or another online store. The prices will be better than at regular stores. You will find that xD cards tend to be more expensive than SD cards. I would stay away from the auction sites, too many counterfeits being sold these days.
Reply:XD is smaller than SD.. i think XD is half the size of SD.. and true that u can only use XD in olympus..
Reply:Your camera only uses xD cards. SD memory cards are used by all but three camera makers. (xD = Fujifilm and Olympus, memory card = Memory Stick Sony only

How do you work sd cards?

i have a SD card and have tryed to download songs onto it which seemed to be successfull and then i put the SD back into my phone and it doesnt have any files, and when i try to sync it it doesnt work.

How do you work sd cards?
It depends on the phone and the network that you have. I know that for my phone, I have to sync the music directly to my phone using the USB cable; I cannot use a card reader. If I use a card reader, the phone will not recognize the data...

Also, you may want to make sure that the SD card is formatted for your phone before downloading anything.
Reply:opnly .mp3 and .midi work on phones.

Regular SD cards go up to 4gb. SDHC cards go up to 8gb. There are some limitations to what sizes devices will recognize, however. And you will have to check if devices accept SDHC cards.

Is it safe to send SD memory cards through the mail? How 'bout international?

I wouldn't because of the fact that they are relatively expensive to replace and the mail isn't very reliable. I'd just burn whatever you have saved on the memory card onto a CD or DVD and send that (in some sort of plastic protective case).

Whatever way you decide to send it make sure to write FRAGILE on the envelope several times.

Is it safe to send SD memory cards through the mail? How 'bout international?
Yes. Just get insurance. If their is any important info on it, make a backup on your com.
Reply:Shouldn't be a problem. They are very tough, and even if the packaged is x-rayed it won't affect a magnetic medium like a card. Insert a stiff piece of cardstock on either side to keep the envelope from getting folded.

Oh, and back up the images before you send it!

Polaroid i634 doesnt even notice sd cards?
Many cameras you have to tell the camera to not use the internal memory anymore. On my Kodak you had the option of Internal memory or Automatic (which was the SD card and wasnt automatic anything).

Make sure that the security lock on the outside of the SD card isnt slid to lock.

What are the SD memory cards and what is the difference between them and the USB flash memory?

Agreed. SD cards are used in still cameras, movie cameras, phones, mp3 players, lots of stuff - for memory for storing images, video, and music. USB drives aare portable data storage for computers. You can get little adapters that turn an SD card into a USB drive. The bonus with SD cards is that there's a tiny switch that you can use to make it read-only - so you can't accidentally erase anything on the card. Also many cameras with USB cords are only USB1 and getting the pictures off will be much faster with a USB2 card adapter than using the camera cord.

What are the SD memory cards and what is the difference between them and the USB flash memory?
SD memory are little cards, that are mostly found in digital camera's, while the other of flash drives, they plug into the USB ports of your computer, basically the replacement to what the floppy drive was.

I'm wanting to buy a mini sd memory card for my phone so that I can store more than 10 songs on it, but all of the places I have checked (such as walmart, target, bestbuy and circuit city) only sell them online, and I would rather not buy them online if I can avoid it.

also, on a side note what would be the best size to get if I only plan to put 50-75 songs on the phone

Are there any stores that sell mini sd cards?
ask the store to order it for you.

you can pay at store and have it sent to them for pick up.

as for size get the largest one you can afford.

you may want more memory later, or use card on a phone you get later and may decide to put video on it..

Are there bad brands of Micro SD cards?

I'm looking for a micro SD card and I found some really cheap ones on ebay for like a 2GB around 10 dollars. Is there something that I should stay away from or anything I can look for when buying? Please give me any feedback.

Are there bad brands of Micro SD cards?
To my best knowlege there are no particulary "BAD" SD cards.... However $10 for a 2gig SD card is just too good to be true. I'd stay away if I was you. I have gotten CF and SD cards from "less known" manufacturers in the past and they worked just fine. As a general rule of thumb I wouldnt advise you to buy any media that costs more than $20 less that the "known" brands. Anything less sounds a little fishy...

EDIT: As an example a Kingston Standard 2GB SD card on newegg is $18.99 shipped... So that means that something you'd get on e-bay for $10 would probably be fine.(yes I know I'm contradicting what I said above. I just did some research and proven myself wrong) Havent kept up to date with the current prices. ;)

If the card will suck, give the seller a bad feedback and state that he sells bad products. Either way... what are you risking? $10? That's not much of a loss, but if the card will turn out tio be fine, you will have a nice deal.

The above is purely IMHO, and should be taken accordingly. I'm just trying to help.

SD cards less power consumption?

There are SD cards currently on the market which saids less power consumption. If my camera can only last 30 minutes recording with a 256mb camera. Approximately how much longer can I record with 256mb that consume less power?

SD cards less power consumption?
Turn down the brightness on your screen. Also, stop reviewing every picture every time. Set the camera to the shortest review time possible. The less frequently you use your screen, the longer your batteries will last.

If it's a video camera, dim the screen as much as possible, and do as little zoom/tricky stuff as you can.

I can't see the SD card eating up so much power that your batteries dies in 30 minutes. That's ridiculous.

Are the SD and MMC memory cards interchangable?

Our camera uses SD (secure digital) memory cards but was wondering if the MMC card will also work.

I've seen laptops that have only one slot with "SD/MMC" by the slot.....meaning to me that both memory cards (SD and MMC) will fit in the same slot.

How do you think about downsizing of SD cards. Please tell me your opinion.?

I think "God damnit!" I'm a lover of big technology. I absolutely LOATHE small consumer electronics. I can't press my phone properly, I can't handle the memory cards from my camera properly. I'm a pretty good with my hands in terms of fixing small stuff like mechanical pencils and what not but I still hate tiny technological stuff because it makes them break easier.

How do you think about downsizing of SD cards. Please tell me your opinion.?
At least they are staying with a format that is backwards compatible -

technology will always get smaller - and if we want more features then this has to happen - and for sure I don't want lots of diff formats of memory cards - I select the gadgets I buy whether they take an SD format card or not! - if they take something else then I don't buy!

How to take photographs off discs and put onto sd memory cards?

by discs i am assuming you mean Cd's or DVDs. As long as you have or have access to a computer, there is a nifty little device found at your local Walmart or best buy. It looks similar to a flash drive, but the back of it opens to fit your SD card. With that option, you can take pictures music and or any other files you want on the SD card and move them directly. The device will plug in directly to your usb and it runs for about 10 or 15 dollars

Do all sd cards all use the same programing language. and if not what languages do they use?
SD cards are memory devices just like hard disks or RAM, they don't use any programming language. The only thing in common are their interface, including the number and function of their metal contacts. You can probably find specifications for this interface on technical web sites or in a patent.

I have a Panasonic DMC-FZ18 Lumix camera and am curious, as I presently have a 4GB SD card...if I wish to utilize the burst or continuous shooting mode, will that card suffice or do I need a SDHC card or something of that ilk...not real familiar re: write speeds and requirements and such, just wanting to know if my present SD card will serve my needs. Thnx

Two types of SD cards...a 4GB SD card and a 4GB SDHC card. What is the benefit to the SDHC type?
No need to worry. The 'HC' in the SDHC card just stands for 'High Capacity' this is a general term for cards over 2GB. Earlier cameras had a memory limit of 2GB and therefore could not use cards larger than that. AS needs grew, SDHC cards were invented for cameras and devices that could address more than 2GB of memory. Now the 'HC' is starting to lose its meaning as it is becoming very common these days to use more than 2GB in a device.

This has nothing to do with the card's speed. The original standard for measuring the speed of a card was referenced to 150 kilobits per second or 0.15 megabits per second. This is referred to as 1x or one speed. a ten speed card was ten times as fast so it could process 1.5 megabits per second. You average camera likes to write at around 25x or 3.75 Mb/s. Any card faster than that will be fine. If the card is slower, then you will just experience a longer delay before the camera is ready to use again. In most situations this is not the end of the world.

My advice is stick with a name brand card such as Sandisk, Lexar etc and just get what the budget can afford. Sandisk however is the world's most counterfeited card, so watch out for 'cheap' ones on places like ebay etc.

What are the different sizes of SD cards?

What are the different sizes of SD cards?
they can all hold a lot.

MicroSD - tiny, in newer phones up to 8gb

MiniSD - a little bigger, used in older phones - idk like 2gb?

SD - sd card. up to 8 or 16 gb.
Reply:As "Crazy Guy" said, just be sure and check your camera specs. Some cameras will not function with the ultra high gig storage cards.

Also keep in mind, a downside to using a very high gig card is that you are "putting all your eggs in one basket". If the card fails or you lose or damage it, you will lose far more photos than you will if you are using several smaller capacity cards.

What kind of mini sd memory cards work wit t mobile sidekick 3?

i own a sidekick 3 and i wanted to change the memory stick with a larger one, which memory sticks are compatible.

What kind of mini sd memory cards work wit t mobile sidekick 3?
Any size up to 2 GB is compatible with the SK3. Ones with more space have been tried and sometimes work, but others have had issues with them. I would just try 2 GB at the most if I were you, because those are supported.

P.S. You should be able to use whatever brand you can get.

Why doesn't my computer read both of my 2 GB SD cards when it reads my 1 GB SD card without any problems?

Go to the store or order a USB plug in for your SD card. Then it should transfer the pictures/video without a problem.

Could you please post your motherboards spec`s to help the board address your question

You should have no trouble with a Mini SD memory card. I believe the supported size limit is 1 GB. You could try a 2 GB. However, there is a chance it may not work.

When I try to use SD cards to download music in my mp3 player it says that the media is write protected.?

I first used SD cards for downloading music from the net on to my mp3 player. But now when I use it it says that the media is write protected? What do I do?

When I try to use SD cards to download music in my mp3 player it says that the media is write protected.?
Hi, This is my first answer to anybody through yahoo answers. There might be a very small switch on the side of your SD card, maybe with a little sign of a lock. try to switch that towards the un-lock sign and I Hope the card works then. thanx for reading !
Reply:OK, there are a few things. First of, you used Napster or iTunes to downoad the music, in which case you probably have to pay an extra few to transfer it onto an SD. Otherwise, there's a little tab on the side of the card that says "Lock" and you can push up or down. Try pushing it up (if you have it down). Otherwise your card might be messed up...

Micro Sd cards needs to be reformatted?

I bought a SD Card. It did not come with the phone, should I reformat it first before using it? Kingston is the brand.

Micro Sd cards needs to be reformatted?
it really doesn't matter

it's not going to do anything if you dont

or if you do

i would however, jsut to be safe

When you have a digital camera can you use different sd memory cards in it?

like i have a lexar 4gb memory card now but im gonna get another one except the make is transcend so can i use them both with my camera? oh and will a digital photo frame take the both of them? sorry if this sounds like a silly question im new to technology.lol thx

When you have a digital camera can you use different sd memory cards in it?
I have two Transcend 4GB cards I use in my DSLR .. and other brands as well from 2GB to 8GB ... all work just fine, but beware ... do not buy them over the Internet for now ...

http://members.shaw.ca/fakesandisk/
Reply:Yes. You can use both of these cards with your camera as long as they are both are SD cards.

You should ALWAYS format any new card using the camera's format option to insure that it has the proper file structure on it. If you do this you should have no problem.

If you a digital photo frame check to make sure that it supports SD Memory cards.
Reply:sure. as long it's sd its ok. the brands don't mean anything.

Can i use more then 2 micro sd cards for a r4?

hey since u have to buy a micro sd card seprate fo the r4 can i buy more then 1 and put games on to them and play them?

Can i use more then 2 micro sd cards for a r4?
You may use as many SD cards as you want, as long as you load the primary software (either in your R4 CD or download it from their website) onto each of the SD cards. Please note that the R4 does not support SDHC (SD High Capacity) cards, and that 4GB is the max size you could go. (It is recommended that you go below that number though.)

My computer wont't read one of my SD memory cards can I do somethign about it ?

I have a SD memory card that my computer cant read Im guessing its the card and not my computer since it will read another SD card I have , There just used to save pictures from my digital camera. Is there anything i can do to get this SD card working ?

My computer wont't read one of my SD memory cards can I do somethign about it ?
The card might not be properly formatted. Are you using mac or windows? I would suggest first using your digital camera's formatting tool (usually in the menu) to perform a format on the memory card and then see if windows will recognize the card. If it still does not recognize the card (but recognizes another card) then you may have a bad card on your hands.

What to do with low memory sd cards?

now a days cameras use 512mb sd cards as a bare minimum.

I just bought a 2gb to replace my 512, the 512 is still useful, but i still have a 256mb and a 64mb SD card. What can i do with them?? they seem pretty useless.

too bad cars dont have sd slots and can read mp3 files.

What to do with low memory sd cards?
Get an old camera that uses that card and keep it in your glove dept, so if you have an accident, take pictures instantly.
Reply:Something you could do is buy one of those digital picture frames. Then take pictures you want put onto the frame, save rev. versions, and then lower the quality of the rev. version so that each picture is just under 1MB. Then put those revised photos onto the lower-capacity cards and then insert those cards into the picture frame. Voila.
Reply:I have two older (and simple) digital cameras. Each came with an 8-MB card. I added a 64-MB card as a backup but seldom need it.

Your newer camera probably needs a lot more memory, but I would think you could use the 512-MB card as a spare.

This is how I use my cards. When I am taking a lot of photos (like on vacation), I download the photos each day to a computer and then email them to myself. I delete them from that computer after I've emailed the photos.

Then I erase the cards for the next photo shoot. The 8-MB cards are usually okay for my needs, but I always have the 64-MB card when I need it.

What sd cards are fast enough for vista ready boost?

does anyone know of a certain sd card that is fast enough for readyboost? I am looking for one to use on my laptop. thanks

What sd cards are fast enough for vista ready boost?
Yes, try SDHC or just plain SD Ultra will do. Some have read/write speeds up to 9 MB per second.

REMEMBER: NEVER USE FLASH DRIVES FOR READYBOOST. THEY ARE SLOWER THAN SD CARDS AND WILL ACTUALLY SLOW DOWN YOUR COMPUTER EVEN THOUGH THE MEMORY HAS BEEN INCREASED. However, you'll be able to run more programs. I still recommend page files.

What is your opinion on backing up photos to SD cards?

I don't have huge amounts of photos, mostly of my kids %26amp; family. I was wondering how you felt about using SD cards as a form of back up? Do you think they will be stable enough. I don't want to loose my treasured memories. I plan on backing up to DVD also, but as a graphic designer, I've seen far too many of them cause problems down the road. What is your opinion?

What is your opinion on backing up photos to SD cards?
SD On My View is more Fragile then DVD, You can Care DVD. SD also have a huge problem that it is so small, we lost it regularly. I suggest you have DVD, with a Backup on External Hard Disk, Like Segate or WD 120GB External, Not on SD. Trust me, you are Graphics designer, and i am Data Administrator.

Can SD Cards Save Virtual Console games in Wii?

Can SD cards save virtual console games in the Wii? I understand that you cannot export the SD card to another Wii, but can it at least hold some more games on your own Wii? 512 MB is clearly not enough.

Can SD Cards Save Virtual Console games in Wii?
yeah you can put the VC games on a SD card. i suggest a 2GB one because there are going to be tons of good VC games coming out, especially the ones specifically made for wii. i have all the VC games that came out so far...yes they cost a lot and ive spent a lot of money on them and i already have a few SD cards waiting for more games to come out...have fun and get a large capacity SD card
Reply:you can save your VC games to an sd card, but they need to be in your console's internal memory for you to be able to play it.
