I have various devices that use SD cards, my laptop, my satnav, my mob, and my camera. The satnav incorporates a large screen, a pic viewer and an mp3 player fed by files on the SD card. What I want to do is build some photo and mp3 libraries on larger SD cards so that I can both use them myself in the car, mainly the mp3's, or use the portable satnav as a screen to show others survey photos or similar. The libraries for both are stored on my pc, hence I want to download edited sets from these libraries to the SD cards for portable use. The pc has an integral card reader.
With 1Gb cards the formatting process ends in the dreaded blue screen.
With 2Gb cards it just reports 'cannot format this......'
The process works with 512Mb cards - so the tech is there to do what I want. The problem is the higher cards, which seems strange as the capacity of even the biggest SD cards at 8Gb is trivial compared to portable HD's etc., that it can format.
Does anyone know of a 'workaround'?
Re: formatting SD cards over 512Mb., i.e. 1Gb, to 4Gb cards. My fully updated Xp-SP2 crashes when I try this?
try formatting with a different "format" Does it give you Fat 16 by any chance? some machines don't like the Fat 32.
