What is your opinion on backing up photos to SD cards?

I don't have huge amounts of photos, mostly of my kids %26amp; family. I was wondering how you felt about using SD cards as a form of back up? Do you think they will be stable enough. I don't want to loose my treasured memories. I plan on backing up to DVD also, but as a graphic designer, I've seen far too many of them cause problems down the road. Should I do it?

What is your opinion on backing up photos to SD cards?
You could get a usb flash or thumb drive, they are not too expensive and can hold a lot, depending on how big it is. Plus, it is much safer than a little card
Reply:personally sd cards seem to be an expensive way to store photos... if your that worried about DVDs or CDs you could always, go the old fashionied route, and get hard copies pritned, and put them in a photo album.... that way, u always have a copy, if the dvd or cd go bad.....
Reply:I ask this exact question to a photo specialist. They told me photos will degenerate on discs too over time. They recommended a thumb drive or an external hard drive. I invested in a usb connectible drive for about 75 bucks. It has about 120 gig of memory.

they said it was much safer on there.
Reply:Saving your photos on an SD card wold be expensive, and risky since they are easy to loose. I would recommend an external hard drive. They are getting cheaper and cheaper and BIGGER and BETTER!

You can also back up other things on your computer (files, documents, etc) with an external hard drive AND move things from computer to computer easily with and external hard drive.

Check this one out at Best Buy: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?...
Reply:DVD won't generate over time. If you are aferaid of that, make a backup every 10 years. I am a Professional Graphic designer and backed over 300k photos over 15 years and they are all good.

Some people post comments that make no sense. I would be more worried to leave them on HD that might not work one day to the next.

DVD is the way.
