Is there a difference between an sd card and a memory stick?

I just bought a sony cyber-shot camera that uses the memory stick duo card. is that the same thing as an sd card? i tried to put the memory stick card (with the adapter) in my nintendo wii but it said it only read sd cards. any info would be great b/c im new to all of this stuff - im way behind on the times ;)

A SD card and a memory stick can often be confused with terms. A memory stick is a small thumb drive that you plug into your computer.. if you look at it it looks like a little thumb with a USB tip on the end of it. These memory sticks are usually meant for data saving and easy transferring. Most cameras do not work with these.

A SD card however, is a small card meant for cameras. It holds the same principle as a memory stick but is meant for cameras and can be read by some computers as well.
Reply:yes, not all devices read sd card or memory stick duo card
Reply:Yes,2 very different types of memory card.

Memory Stick is a proprietry SONY make

SD Card is a different shape, size, voltage etc etcet c

They are not intercompatible and even with an adaptor MANY devices will not read the other model

Jackal should read question the mention of a cyber shot camera clearly indicates that the memory stick ref is to a sony memory stick "card" not a USB pen drive
Reply:SD or Secure Digital is a fairly standard "flash" memory card that is used in many cameras and other devices. A "Memory Stick or Duo Memory Stick" is a type of flash memory that is particular to Sony. The two are very different and can not be interchanged.
