Mmc stands for multi-media card. I need one for my cell phone.

Although one is technically "based on" the other, you pretty much want to buy the one that your device is designed for. Here is the flash memory (SD, MMC, Sony MS, etc) page at Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/SubCat...
Reply:Secure Digital(SD) cards are based on the older Multi Media Card (MMC). They are lightly thicker than the MMC cards. In MOST cases, MMC cards can be read by SD card slots. SD cards will not fit into thinner MMC card slots. However, special adapters are available to do this.

SD cards have a much higher transfer rates than MMC cards, but this changing with advances in technology.

Hope this helps.
