I ruined a sd card by formatting it on my computer. Now it wont work in my camera. Is it a total loss?

I did a quick format of my sd card to earse some pics b4 i put it back in my digital camera %26amp; i'm wonder if it's just a piece of trash now becuase it wont work in my camera anymore. When i put the card back in my camera it says to check the card. Can i reverse what i did?

Reply:Try reformating it via the camera's menu.


When formatting the memory card with the PC you don't only erase the pics but also the default folders the camera needs to save the pics.


When formatting the card with the camera these folders are put in place again and the card should be working again.


If you want to simply delete the pics on the card with the computer you can do it by selecting the pics you want to delete from the memory card and hitting the delete button on the keyboard. Or by moving (not copying) them from the camera to your computer's harddisk. This will not remove the folders but only the pics.
